Artist statement

Through interdisciplinary practice, I enjoy exploring connections between psyche, self, myth. My current long term project “Party of Immortals” allows these explorations through persona creation. I remember as a kid I'd write vigorously on a shared google doc with my childhood friend on whatever our current project of the week was. The main characters were naturally always some sort of version of ourselves.

The creation process is a serendipitous process. It is impulsive and built with an inherent trust that the final product ‘just works out’. It is not that there is no planning involved- rather that the planning emerges one step at a time. First is the dreamy idea of a new character. Then a costume. Then a performance. A poetic reflection. Another performance. And the cycle continues.

I began my current project with performance, costume-making and writing. Recently I’ve had a lot of fun dabbling with digital graphics. The zines I’ve created have both traditional and digital elements to them, collaged on paper and edited in ClipStudio. The medium is almost rudimentary; it is the concept that matters most.
